Smallbore rifles (.22 long rifle) provide various activities for youth and teens to learn shooting skills. Outdoor smallbore positions for shooting include prone, kneeling,
and offhand target shooting. Scopes and shooting mats are equipment that may be used. Silhouette shoots are a fun competitive activity where shooters take aim at small metal
animal targets. Scores are kept at varying distances.
The 4-H Firing Fanatics plans to launch its smallbore rifle program in the fall of 2009. Air Rifle Instructor, Jim Butler,
will be leading our smallbore rifle program. Equipment and ammunition will be provided for all classes, workshops, practice and competitions.
4-H provides state and national competitions for smallbore rifles. The National 4-H Invitational Match takes the best
shooters from each state in this 4-H only competition.. The Maryland 4-H Smallbore Rifle Competition
allows 4-H'ers from Maryland to test their skills against other Maryland shooters. Smallbore rifles even have competitions in the Olympics.
Whether you decide to compete or just come out for the fun of it, The Firing Fanatics invite you to try your hand at smallbore rifles. You can sign up for one of our upcoming
beginning air rifle classes and
sign up for our club online.
